The purpose of this meeting is to present... "White Paper on the Strategic Plan of the 9 Rajamangala University of Technology Institutes, 2570-2574" and Strategic proposal: "The Power of Thai Higher Education to Drive the National Economy" Aiming to elevate universities to become strategic national infrastructure, the initiative highlights three main strategies to transform the Rajamangala University of Technology group over the next five years. A draft white paper outlines the approach to changing the role of universities to address global challenges and national goals through these three key strategies:
1. Developing the competencies of a highly skilled workforce. Aiming to produce highly skilled, practical graduates and innovators to meet the needs of future industries, with a target of producing over 40,000 personnel per year.
2. Economic transformation through innovation, research, and development of applied knowledge for commercial and social benefit. The focus is on creating intellectual property and practical technologies.
3. Transforming to a Smart Organization Develop an integrated database system, “One RMUT Platform,” for efficient collaborative management of student data (E-Portfolio), personnel, and research.
The nine Rajamangala University of Technology campuses have defined pilot projects through six clusters aligned with the national strategy and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI): Electric Vehicles (EV): Preparing human resources and technology to support Thailand's transformation into an EV manufacturing hub; Artificial Intelligence (AI): Developing AI skills at four levels, from basic to innovator; Advanced Semiconductors and Electronics: Strengthening digital infrastructure; Advanced Medicine and Health Tech: Integrating AI and biotechnology for an aging society; Energy Transition: Focusing on clean energy and green hydrogen technology; and Sustainability and Smart Cities: Driving towards a low-carbon and net-zero society.
In addition, the following was also presented: Strategic proposals to address the country's "structural crisis" through a collaborative effort by the four networks of university presidents (Council of University Presidents of Thailand, Rajabhat Universities, Rajamangala University of Technology, and Association of Higher Education Institutions of Thailand). Key milestones include:
1. Paradigm Shift: From being a “Degree Provider” to a “New Growth University” that grows from new values.
2. Triple Helix: Uniting the public, private, and university sectors through mechanisms that respond to crises in a timely manner.
3. Research that goes beyond publication: Focus on prototyping and technology transfer to create university spin-offs and startups.
4. Credit Bank System: Promotes lifelong learning and competency accumulation (Competency Wallet) to ensure learners have immediate employment.
This meeting with the Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation marks a significant step for the Rajamangala University of Technology group in demonstrating unity and driving force to help Thailand overcome the middle-income trap and elevate its economic structure towards a sustainable innovation-based economy.
